Support nutritional efforts and eliminate hunger in Northern Arizona.
My name is Lang Montierth. I am the founder and Executive Director of the Northern Arizona Community Food Project. The NACFP is a resource to build something Southern Apache County deserves, a reliable, community based and compassionate system where neighbors help neighbors and everyone has access to the food they need to live and work with dignity.
Our goals are planned by Southern Apache County's community members with input from community surveys, community relationships, and the lived experiences of local families, allowing the Northern Arizona Community Food Project to develop programs that respond directly to the needs of Southern Apache County.
Our Food Pantry is open Monday through Friday from 9:00AM to 11:00AM where pantry visitors select food that fits their family's needs, taste and preferences. Visitors are encouraged to select two days of food for each member of their home and may return to the pantry every two days.
Borderlands Produce Rescue's P.O.W.W.O.W (Produce on Wheels Without Waste) NAFCFP partnership distributed 250,000 lbs. of produce from February to November 2025 and continues each month to truck in 40,000 lbs. of fresh produce to Southern Apache and Navajo County. All at .20 cents per pound!
The 2025 Southern Apache County Community Food Assessment compiles feedback from community surveys, pantry programs, and local partnerships to better understand the realities of food access in rural Southern Apache County. The findings help guide NACFP programs designed to strengthen long-term food security.

In 2025 the NACFP Pantry provided 40,000 meals. Our philosophy is that providing two days with a 2000 - 2500 calorie per-day diet, that is also in alignment to the current 2026 USDA guidelines is the most effective way to meet the needs of the Apache County food insecure population served by the NACFP Pantry.

The Compassion Committee oversees the operation of our community pantry and works to ensure that neighbors facing food insecurity are treated with dignity, respect, and care. Throughout the year, the committee coordinates food distributions, volunteer efforts, and community support initiatives that help families access nutritious meals when they need them most. This committee is dedicated to strengthening our community by making sure no one is left without support during difficult times.

The Off-Grid Committee works to explore and promote practical solutions for independent, resilient living in our rural communities. Throughout the year, the committee hosts discussions, demonstrations, and hands-on learning opportunities focused on topics such as water collection, solar power, food production, and sustainable homesteading. These gatherings are open to anyone interested in learning how off-grid and low-infrastructure living can support self-reliance and strengthen our local community.

We rely on volunteers to help Whether you can help us for a few hours or a few days, we welcome your help and expertise.

Addressing food insecurity does not happen in isolation! It is deeply connected to the overall health and development of a community. True long-term solutions require more than simply providing food or water; they involve building stronger local delivery systems, relationships, and creating opportunities that help people thrive. Through community development efforts such as outreach, civic partnerships, surveys, local health initiatives, and advocacy we work to understand the needs of our neighbors across Northern Arizona and support solutions that strengthen our local economy, expand access to resources, and improve quality of life. By investing in Southern Apache community development, we help create lasting conditions where food security can grow and be sustained.

At the Apache County Fair, our team focuses on community outreach, listening, and relationship building. The fair provides an opportunity for us to meet residents from across the county, share information about our programs, and learn directly from the community. During the event we conduct surveys, gather feedback about local needs, and build relationships that help guide our future projects and initiatives. These conversations help ensure our work continues to reflect the priorities and voices of the people we serve.
